Are there any Women Authors in Sci-Fi?

For as long as I can remember, I have loved everything science fiction. Okay, maybe not everything. I never got into the alien hotties with three tits.
But I have always wanted to write a science fiction book. I didn’t know what it was going to be about, but I knew I would figure it out. I was in college when I had this dream. After days of thinking about it, that dream grew into my first published novel, Khunda (Ancient Blood Book One).
It wasn’t until days before it launched that I started to question how many female science fiction authors were out there. This inquiry came from a few conversations I had with other writers, as well as my marketing research.
My first sparks of intrigue came while I was looking at other authors’ covers and noticed the females portrayed always had a gun, skin-tight suit, and one hell of a rack. Generally, speaking women don’t portray female characters in that way. We tend to understand what a pain in the ass boobs is so we are not mean enough to give topple-sized boobs to a character unless we hate them.
My protagonist does not fit with what I am seeing in other author’s covers. This does worry me, not only for my own sales but also shouldn’t little girls who love sci-fi be exposed to so much more than that.
I also found that while talking to other authors, they seemed shocked to hear I wrote science fiction. I know the current market trend is urban fantasy books, but I never thought that surprise would be the response I got.
It just made me think, are there other woman writers in science fiction?
I will keep you posted on this journey to find others like me and leave a comment if you know of any female sci-fi authors.
